CVS Health has announced a $10.5 million investment in housing for young adults who are experiencing homelessness in Cleveland.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place at 11 a.m. at 1418 East 47th Street in Cleveland where the new three-story housing unit will be built.

The investment from CVS Health and CHN Housing Partners will build Cuyahoga Transitioning Aged Youth (TAY), a 50-unit residence for adults between the ages of 18-24  who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.

“When young people have stable housing, it puts them in a better position to take care of their health and well-being,” said Tracey Izzard, CEO of Aetna Better Health of Ohio, a CVS Health company. “Through our investment in Cleveland, we’re addressing social determinants of health and providing these young adults with the resources they need to succeed in life.”

Cuyahoga TAY will be a supportive housing development that offers on-site health and social services to help young adults rebuild their lives.

Some of the services include the following:

  • Mental and behavioral health
  • Financial literacy
  • Employment services
  • Academic services
  • Life skills training
  • Transportation

“We’re incredibly grateful to CVS Health for seeing the importance of this development to our young adults and our community,” said Kevin Nowak, executive director of CHN Housing Partners. “As the first of its kind in Cleveland, it is truly a collaboration with youth with lived expertise.”

Cuyahoga TAY will offer one and two-bedroom residential units that are fully furnished with air conditioning, a refrigerator, electric range, window blinds and storage.

Other amenities at the affordable housing complex will include on-site management, on-site supportive services, a community room with a learning kitchen, laundry facilities, on-site parking and a basketball court.

CVS Health investments have created nearly 1,750 affordable housing units since 2020.
