Record-breaking heat in SLC, cooler temps are right around the corner

SALT LAKE CITY — It’s officially hot in Salt Lake City. On Thursday, the thermostat rose beyond 90 degrees for the first time this year, creating some record-breaking heat.

Record-breaking heat

The temperature reached 93 degrees, which sets a new record for May 26. The previous record for May 26 was 92 degrees, set in 1958.

Friday will be another scorcher. KSL Meteorologist Kristen Van Dyke predicts clouds will move in tonight to trap the heat.

“I think people will really feel the heat if [they] haven’t been using the AC,” Van Dyke said.

Cooling off for Memorial Day

Things will change just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

There’s actually a chance of rain all weekend. Van Dyke says this will bring temperatures back down in into the 60s next week.

“With the drought, it may not help that much,” Van Dyke said. “But where it will help is just with watering the lawn. So, we can all take a break from using the water to save up.”
