Albanese sworn in as PM ahead of Quad summit; MP backs Dutton for Liberal leadership; Russia tightens grip on Mariupol; Biloela family’s return home ‘a priority’ after Labor’s election win

Albanese has just told off his first reporter on day one in office.

“You will not get the call earlier because you yell,” he said to one reporter in what was quite an urgent presser, given it was so short.

“Can we just – on day one – get that clear.”

That was quite a funny moment. Albanese broke away from talking about China and national security to chide that journalist.

“The relationship with China will remain a difficult one,” he said.

“It is China that has changed, not Australia.

“Australia should always stand up for our values, and we will.”

He then hustled off to board a plane with Foreign Minister Penny Wong, who will travel with the new PM to Japan.
