Princess Charlene of Monaco has been out of the spotlight in recent months since stepped back from her official duties in order to undergo treatment for “exhaustion, both emotional and physical” at an undisclosed facility outside of Monaco. Now her husband, Prince Albert, has spoken out with an update on the princess’s health and when fans might see her make a return to public life.

Last week, Albert told the Monaco-Matin newspaper that Charlene is “doing much better,” according to People, adding “I hope she will be back in the Principality very soon.” The statement follows a January update from the palace, which assure her well-wishers that the princess is “continuing in a satisfying and very encouraging way,” and that her convalescence could “still take several weeks.”

Charlene’s current recovery is just the latest in almost a year of ongoing health struggles for the royal. In May of 2021, the former Olympic swimmer flew to South Africa for what was intended to be a brief trip to contribute to her wildlife conservation work. However, after her arrival in the country, a pre-existing ENT procedure reportedly left her unable to fly, causing her to be grounded in South Africa for six months while undergoing a series of corrective surgical procedures. Charlene was ultimately able to return to Monaco in November to reunite with her husband and their twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella. However, the reunion was short-lived, and she entered her current treatment facility soon thereafter.

The royal couple and their children have reportedly remained in close contact throughout Charlene’s treatment through daily phone and video calls, despite ongoing rumors that Charlene’s absence is in some way tied to Albert’s most recent round of legal issues.
