Premier Mark McGowan said police are monitoring a COVID-19 outbreak in the Aboroginal community of Jameson, which has been locked down.

“We have a testing regime in place in Jameson to try and work out if anyone else has effectively been infected,” Mr McGowan said.

“And we’ll do what we can to manage the situation in their community.”

“The two people who are positive on advice came across from South Australia through backroads and therefore breached the rules that were in place.”

“They’ve been fined as a consequence.”

Mr McGowan said remote Aboriginal communities are of a concern when it comes to managing Omicron.

“We have various plans in place to manage the situation if there are outbreaks. Basically, we have rules about who can go in and also, if there are outbreaks we basically lock the communities down,” he said.

“I require people to quarantine and if anyone is very unwell, we get them out and into hospital. So that’s the basic plan around remote Aboriginal communities.”

WA has recorded 213 new local COVID-19 cases and 11 others related to travel.
