People who receive a coronavirus vaccine at the Montezuma County Public Health Department’s June 10 clinic will receive a gift certificate for a free six pack of annual flowers from Cliffrose Garden Center & Gifts.

The partnership with the Cortez-based business marks the first incentive offered by the department to get vaccinated.

The names of those vaccinated at the clinic will also be put into a drawing for an additional $50 gift certificate. The drawing for the certificate will be held June 11.

The clinic is appointment-only, with 30 slots being offered.

The Pfizer vaccine is available to those age 12 and up. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson shots are available to those age 18 and up.

County spokesperson Vicki Shaffer told The Journal that demand for the vaccine has dampened locally.

“I think we’re getting to the point where people who have wanted the vaccination have gotten it,” Shaffer said. “And things are slowing down now.”

Gov. Jared Polis announced a new vaccine incentive program, Colorado Comeback Cash, last week.

The Colorado Lottery will conduct a random weekly drawing on behalf of the Colorado Department of Health and Environment to identify one vaccinated Colorado resident each week to win a million-dollar cash prize.

All Colorado residents age 18 and older who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine automatically entered into the drawing.

Drawings for $1 million will be held each week for five weeks, beginning next week and ending with the final announcement on July 7.

The Montezuma County Public Health Department will continue to host regular clinics on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The department will also be hosting a clinic on June 17 at Mesa Verde National Park. No appointment will be required for that event.

The clinic will be held at the health department, located at 106 W. North St. in Cortez.

Appointments can be booked by calling (970) 565-3056
