The NSW Government is now offering people over the age of 50 the opportunity to get vaccinated at the state’s mass vaccination hub in Sydney.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian encouraged everyone in that age bracket to first speak to their GPs before registering for the jab at the hub.
“Our strategy has always been to have our GPs as the main administers of the vaccine,” she said.
NSW GPs have administered more than 700,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“This shows that GPs can run this vaccine program and the people of NSW really do trust GPS to be the ones to give them their vaccine,” NSW AMA President Dr Danielle McMullen said.
Dr McMullen said there is still a “mismatch” in the supply of vaccine doses across the state’s GP network.
“Some GPs still don’t feel they have enough vaccines and others feel they can order more than they have the capacity to deliver,” she said.
More than 65,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered last week state-wide.
