PETALING JAYA: Photographs taken by hospital frontliners of patients being treated in intensive care units (ICU) were released by the Health Ministry as a grim reminder that hospitals are running out of life-saving facilities.
“Photographs shared by the frontliners who are the nation’s forefront battling the deadly Covid-19 virus.
“This is the true situation in the ICU ward at the moment.
“All beds in the hospital are almost full and at their maximum capacity, ” the ministry in a Facebook post on Friday night (May 14).
The ministry noted that the photographs were taken at Hospital Kajang which has reached its maximum capacity.
“It is the same for Hospital Ampang, Selayang, Sungai Buloh and other Covid-19 hospitals.
“The situation is already crowded, ” the ministry said.
Though facing a dire situation, the ministry said it had not reached the stage where a choice has to be made on whom of the Covid-19 patients is to receive ICU treatment.
“We ask only one thing of all Malaysians, comply with the rules.
“Protect yourself, protect our families.
“Don’t let our families become one of those in this ICU ward, ” the ministry said.
It reminded Malaysians that the frontliners who treat these patients at the ICU will remain steadfast in their duties to treat the critically ill.
“In order to save lives, all frontliners continue their daily tasks as usual during this first and second day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, ” the ministry said.
Last Saturday (May 8), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said both public and private hospitals were running out of ICU beds.
