COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — As temperatures warm up bears are becoming more active across Colorado.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife want residents to know Bear Aware season has started. Tuesday, they shared a photo of a bear trying to break into homes and cars in Colorado Springs.

In Douglas County, a bear was caught on security camera in on April 8.

CPW asks residents to keep locks on trash cans, take down bird feeders, and avoid leaving food out in the open.

According to CPW, bears work hard to get food and can easily damage property, vehicles, and homes in their pursuit of food. Bears that become aggressive are often killed.

CPW says, “Every time we’re forced to destroy a bear, it’s not just the bear that loses. We all lose a little piece of the wildness that makes Colorado so special.”
