Royal Commission into veteran suicides; Trans-Tasman travel bubble opens; ADF Afghanistan veterans to keep war medals; Investigations continue into NSW hotel quarantine cases

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has acknowledged there is a “long tail of cost” when Australian Defence Forces personnel return home.

“That cost is most significant when we see it in the death by suicide of our veterans,” Mr Morrison said in Sydney today.

Mr Morrison said his government wants to deal with the “very serious issue of death by suicide” of veterans and serving Defence Force personnel.

He said “the toll has been great” on Australian veterans who served in Afghanistan.

“Just transitioning back from an overseas deployment back home as they re-engage with their families … they can find so often very, very difficult.”
