Much of Boulder County saw record-breaking heat during the weekend – Longmont Times-Call

After seeing a very snowy March with Longmont breaking snowfall records, much of Boulder County hit record-breaking high temperatures for early April, over the weekend.

According to meteorologist Evan Direnzo with the National Weather Service in Boulder, both Boulder and Longmont saw record-breaking high temperatures during the weekend.

“The co-op observer in Boulder, reported record highs of 78 on the third and 80 on the fourth. The old record was 77 on in 1943 (on Saturday) and 78 and 1959 (on Sunday),” Direnzo said.

On both Saturday and Sunday, Boulder hit its new April heat records about noon.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Tuesday’s high in Boulder is expected to be 56 degrees with a low of 35 degrees. There is a 60% chance of light on-and-off showers during the daytime hours and a 40% chance of snow in the later evening hours.

Then it’s forecasted to warm back up to into the 60s the rest of the week with plenty of sunshine to explore Boulder’s trails and parks.

Direnzo said it didn’t appear that Boulder would set any more heat records this week.

Local weather observer Greg Byrd said Longmont also broke both its previous April heat records on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s high temperature was 81 degrees, breaking the previous record of 79 degrees set back in 1927, and Sunday’s high temperature was 83 degrees, breaking the record of 77 degrees set in 2016, Byrd wrote in an email.

Initially, Byrd thought Longmont’s forecasted high Monday set in the low 80s could get close to breaking the record of 82 degrees set in 1991; however, the high in Longmont on Monday was 77.

On both Saturday and Sunday, Longmont hit its new April heat records about noon.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Tuesday’s high in Longmont is expected to be 56 degrees with a low of 34 degrees. There is a 70% chance of light on-and-off showers during the daytime hours and a 40% chance of snow in the later evening hours.

Then it’s forecasted to warm back up into the 60s the rest of the week with plenty of sunshine to explore parks.

Byrd said it didn’t appear Longmont would set any more heat records this week.
