Denver hasn’t been this hot on April 4 since 1967.
The city broke a 54-year-old one-day high temperature record Sunday afternoon as thermometers at Denver International Airport hit 80 degrees by 3 p.m. — smashing the previous record high of 76 degrees set April 4, 1967.
The chart-topping heat wave, which began Saturday and tied that day’s record high of 78 degrees, will continue Monday, said Zach Hiris, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service at Boulder.
Temperatures are expected to hit 80 degrees Monday — and could even reach the April 5 record high of 82 degrees set in 1991.
But all warm things must come to an end.
A cold front will move in Tuesday, with temperatures along the Front Range plunging into the high 50s, and the city could see some afternoon rain showers. Then the weather will steadily warm up through the rest of the week, ending in the mid-60s, Hiris said.
