Local, state and federal leaders met at UMMC Thursday and discussed the medical center’s new telehealth technology.Sen. Roger Wicker and FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr reviewed new equipment at the hospital. This equipment is to give patients who are dealing with chronic illnesses the ability to participate in at-home remote monitoring visits.Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lou-Ann Woodward hosted a briefing Thursday. Doctors have said that this technology has been invaluable during the pandemic.”Telehealth and telemedicine has been a godsend in the pandemic. Not long ago when we had the ice and snow storm, most of my patients couldn’t come in, so I sat in my office and did 17 telemedicine visits in my office,” said Dr. Randy Easterling.Leaders have said that access to telehealth is especially important in reaching Mississippians that live in more rural areas. It is also supposed to help those who can not access hospital resources as easily as others.
