Authorities confirmed the death of a second Iowa State University student Monday after locating the body in Little Wall Lake.Five members of the university’s crew club were practicing on the lake Sunday when their boat capsized. Search crews located the first victim on Sunday following the accident.Hamilton County Sheriff Doug Timmons said the area of the lake where the boat capsized reaches depths up to 13 feet.Fire crews from Ventura traveled down to Hamilton County Sunday evening to search Little Wall Lake with sonar equipment.Timmons said the sonar equipment and an Iowa Department of Natural Resources rescue boat found the approximate location of the second victim, allowing a story county dive ream to locate the second victim.“It’s a good feeling,” he said. “It’s a burden lifted for us as rescuers, and also for the families that their loved ones have been recovered.”According to Timmons, high winds on Sunday and Monday made boating dangerous. He said he feels grateful that the second victim was located so that rescue boats could get off the rough water. Authorities said they won’t identify the victims until both families are notified.ISU President Wendy Wintersteen released the following statement Sunday:“The Iowa State community is heartbroken to learn of this tragic accident at Little Wall Lake. At this time, we are focused on providing support to club members, their families and friends. We ask that everyone keep them in their thoughts during this very difficult time.
