Louis Krauss is the new breaking news reporter for The Register-Guard newsroom

The Register-Guard newsroom welcomed Louis Krauss as its Breaking News reporter March 8.

Krauss comes to Eugene from Baltimore where he worked as a news reporter for the Baltimore Brew and The Daily Record. In Baltimore he covered the summer’s Black Lives Matter protests, including compelling video coverage of the tearing down of the city’s Columbus statue, and the impact of COVID-19 on evictions and homelessness.

Before that, he worked at The Daily World in Aberdeen, Washington, from 2017 to 2019 covering city government, school boards, law enforcement and the environment as a staff writer.

Krauss was eager to relocate to the Pacific Northwest. Beyond his Aberdeen experience, he’s cherished time spent with family members in Southern Oregon, where they have lived for many years, and he is an avid hiker who is glad to be living in a mountainous region once again.

“I am excited to cover everything in the wide-open beat of breaking news in Lane County, and to provide context whenever possible about how larger societal issues factor in,” Krauss said. “I look forward to hearing from a wide variety of community members so I can better understand what issues are most important to them. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.”

Krauss was born and raised in Baltimore and graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies from Oberlin (Ohio) College, where he served as The Oberlin Review news editor. He also completed two summer internships in Japan and speaks proficient Japanese.

Krauss will be covering developing news of all kinds, from community and business news to weather emergencies to neighborhood events and more. You can reach him at [email protected] or 541-521-2498. Follow him on Twitter @LouisKraussNews.
