Bryson DeChambeau has been the face of golf in recent months, surging to the top spot in the FedEx Cup points standings and to No. 5 in the world on the strength of victories at the U.S. Open and again at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The long-hitting DeChambeau gets another shot at victory this week when 64 players tee it up beginning Wednesday at the 2021 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, Texas. DeChambeau joins Players Championship winner Justin Thomas at 12-1 atop the 2021 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play odds from William Hill Sportsbook. World No. 1 Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm are each at 14-1, and defending champion Kevin Kisner is a 50-1 long shot on the PGA odds board. One major surprise the model is calling for at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play 2021: Justin Thomas, a 14-time PGA Tour champion and one of the 12-1 co-favorites, stumbles and barely cracks the top-five.
The second-ranked player in the world, Thomas is making his first start after winning the Players Championship by a stroke over Lee Westwood. Thomas has made the cut in nine of 10 starts in the 2020-21 PGA Tour season, and hasn’t finished lower than 15th in any of them en route to ascending to No. 2 in the FedEx Cup points standings.
But Thomas has struggled in his three of his last four Match Play appearances at Austin Country Club, only making it out of the group stage portion of the event once despite firing a 59 in 2017. Thomas is also displaying an alarming lack of accuracy off the tee, ranking 118th in driving accuracy by hitting just 58.83 percent of fairways. That doesn’t bode well for his chances to finish on top of the 2021 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play this week.
Another surprise: Patrick Reed, a 25-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. Reed has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s one of the 2021 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play picks you should be all over. Reed is ranked seventh in the world, and has placed inside the top 25 in seven of his nine starts this season.
Reed captured his ninth career PGA Tour title and the end of January when he fired a final-round 68 to win the Farmers Insurance Open. He followed that up with a ninth at the WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession, and also was 10th at the Masters in November.
