FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale police tell Local 10 News that they will increase law enforcement presence leading into this weekend.

This after spring breakers were partying well into the morning hours Thursday, spilling out of the bars and nightclubs along Fort Lauderdale’s Himmershee Street.

Shots rang out just before 5 a.m. Thursday morning. While business owners said it was an uneventful night, partygoers said it was a wild one, even recording an argument on their cell phones minutes before the gunfire.

One witness said they saw someone run to a car and then they heard gunshots.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Southwest 3rd Avenue to find one man shot. The victim was rushed to Broward Health to undergo emergency surgery following serious injuries sustained from the shooting.

While this area is known to attract spring breakers, college students and teenagers, the victim, police said, worked in the area.
