Sydney P plate driver crashes dad's $70k mustang, Palaszczuk confirms QLD covid restrictions extended, PM urged to stop AstraZeneca vaccine

A Sydney P-plate driver has totalled his father’s brand new V8 Mustang after deciding to take it for a drive in Mt Druitt.

The 20-year-old green P-plater crashed the $70,000 car into a power pole on Sunday night after taking the car without his father’s knowledge.

“He didn’t tell me. He just grabbed the key and disappeared,” his dad Muhammad Akhtar told 7News.

In NSW, P1 and P2 drivers are prohibited from driving high performance vehicles.

Despite the damage, Mr Akhtar still believes his son is “100 per cent” a safe driver.

“He’s very patient, very quiet, very good. He (doesn’t) rush.”

It is understood the car spun out of control on the wet road as it turned the corner on Carlisle Avenue.

The 20-year-old suffered minor injuries to his leg and head.

Mr Akhtar had only bought the vehicle a week before to use at his daughter’s wedding.

The vehicle was insured but because the driver was prohibited from operating the vehicle the damages won’t be covered.

Mt Druitt Police Inspector Wayne Kelly told the network that the university student will likely be charged with negligent driving and driving a prohibited vehicle.
