A father-of-three is fighting for life in a Melbourne hospital after he fell from a moving car during an allegedly drunken dispute with his partner.
The incident occurred just before 2.30am on Sunday in Point Cook when Damien Osbourne allegedly tried to stop his partner, Tara McConchie, leaving a party after the pair had an argument.
Police allege the 36-year-old latched on to the side of Ms McConchie’s as she tried to drive off, resulting in him being flung from the side of the vehicle.
It is believed the couple were drinking at a friend’s house and their three children were inside the home at the time of the incident.
Neighbour Jill Grimison told the Herald Sun she ran out onto the street after hearing tyres screeching and found Ms McConchie cradling Mr
Osborne’s head as he lay bleeding on the ground.
“She was just screaming out: ‘Somebody help me, call an ambulance’,” Ms Grimson said.
“From what I can gather they had an argument and he jumped on the side of the car as she drove off.”
Another neighbour called triple 0 and Mr Osborne was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening head injuries.
Ms Grimison claimed when police arrived, a hysterical Ms McConchie told officers her partner was holding onto the side of her car and “ripped my door handle off”.
The 35-year-old woman was charged with negligently causing serious injury and dangerous driving causing serious injury.
She was granted bail and is due to appear in court on May 26.
