Explosion at Elkins Distillery in Estes Park injures three – Estes Park Trail-Gazette

Three employees were injured in an explosion and fire at Elkins Distilling Co., 825 N. Lake Ave. in Estes Park on Saturday morning, Feb. 27.

One victim was flown Estes Park Health to North Colorado Medical Center Western States Burn Center in Greeley. One is being transferred to that facility. No information yet on the third person injured.

The call came in to the Estes Valley Fire Protection District at 8:57 a.m. Crews responded within seven minutes or so.

The call came in to the Estes Valley Fire Protection District at 8:57 a.m. Crews responded within seven minutes or so.

The injured parties were transported to medical care. No word yet on their conditions.

The explosion occurred in the middle back distilling area of the building.

“The back ceiling came down, making it dicey as far as getting people in to fight the fire,” said Estes Valley Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Michael Richardson. “We made a search to make sure no other people were inside and we put the fire out. The rear of the building is compromised.”

Debris could be seen scattered around the building.
