Gross gaming revenues have increased by 2.6 per cent in January 2021 from the previous month to about MOP8 billion (US$1 billion), the best monthly gaming results in 12 months.
When compared with January, 2020 – the first ‘normal’ gaming operations month before the pandemic reached the SAR – gaming results have dropped by 63.7 per cent year-on-year.
The first month of this year already showed a better total than each of the 11 preceding months, even including the CNY, Golden Week and Christmas and NYE holiday period months.
However, doubts remain over results in February as an increase in Covid-19 cases reported in Mainland China has led to several government advisory notices asking citizens to avoid travel during the lunar new year holiday period.
