Cattaraugus County Health Department Reports 23 New COVID-19 Cases and One Death Saturday

The Cattaraugus County Health Department reported 23 more COVID-19 cases and one death on Saturday.

A 65-year-old woman became the 71st resident of Cattaraugus County to die of COVID-19 related complications since the county began tracking the pandemic in March. She had developed respiratory failure, according to a news release from the health department.

The total number of cases found in the county is 3,560. Of those, 423 cases are currently active, and 43 of those active cases are hospitalized, according to a separate news release from the health department.

The health department has counted 3,064 COVID-19 cases that have recovered in the county.

Eleven of the cases reported Saturday are women, and 12 are men.

The southeast quadrant of the county has been the area with the most cases since the pandemic began, making up 58.5% of the total reported cases. Of the new cases, 10 were from the southeast quadrant; six were from the southwest quadrant; four were from the northeast quadrant, and three were from the northwest quadrant.

Ten of the most recent cases reported no known contact with a COVID-19 positive individual. The remaining 13 had contact with such individuals, according to the health department news release.

County residents in the age bracket of 20 to 29 remain the most infected age group, making up 16.5% of the recorded cases in the county.

The press release from the health department stated that the seven-day average positivity rate of Cattaraugus County is 6.8%.

Out of all the cases located in the county, 76.8% have experienced symptoms while 23.2% of cases reported being asymptomatic. Of the new cases, 22 experienced symptoms; only one was asymptomatic.

New York State’s Western Region:

The Western New York Region, of which Cattaraugus County is a part, had a seven-day average positivity rate of 6.01% on Friday, according to the most recent update on the governor’s website.
