Security scare amid inauguration preparations; Six cases now linked to Australian Open; Tennis player blasts fellow star over quarantine

Welcome to the 9News blog for Tuesday January 19.

Cyclone Kimi has made a U-turn and isn’t expected to have a big impact on Far North Queensland except for bringing a deluge of rain.

There are now six coronavirus cases linked to the arrival of hundreds of Australian Open players and officials. Dozens of players have been thrown into hotel quarantine, unable to leave to train as planned.

Meanwhile, most people in Sydney can now go to Victoria – but some areas in the city’s west are still locked out.

Preparations continue in Washington, DC for the inauguration later this week, with a security scare at the Capitol turning out to be a fire in a nearby homeless camp.
