This Retro Mandalorian Season 2 Finale Poster Will Break Your Heart

Fan artist Butcher Billy created a poster for The Mandalorian’s Season 2 finale that recreates the episode’s most heartbreaking moment.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Mandalorian, “Chapter 16: The Rescue,” streaming now on Disney+.

Artist Butcher Billy has put his own spin on a heartbreaking sequence in The Mandalorian‘s Season 2 finale.

Butcher’s piece features the Force-sensitive Grogu reaching out to an unmasked Din Djarin as the two part ways. In the background is a cloaked Luke Skywalker, holding his signature green lightsaber. Much like Butcher’s previous posters, the poster for “The Rescue” utilizes the font and style of the classic posters for Star Wars: A New Hope.

Perhaps the most striking element of the poster is a caption it uses: “Just for once, let me look on you with my own eyes.” First uttered to Luke by his dying father, Darth Vader, in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, the phrase takes on a new meaning in “The Rescue.” Djarin — who has said that no living thing must ever see him without his helmet — breaks his most sacred oath so that he can say goodbye to Grogu.

“The Rescue” saw Skywalker coming to the aid of Djarin and his allies, as he had heard Grogu call to him through the Force. After a tearful goodbye, Grogu departed with Skywalker to train in the ways of the Force.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now on Disney+. A Season 3 was recently confirmed to be in the works and is set to premiere in December 2021.
