Duval County School officials encourage pandemic protocols for winter break

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The last thing kids want to think about over Winter break is school, but the Duval County School district doesn’t want students to get out of the habits of wearing a mask and social distancing.

In an email sent to parents yesterday, the director wrote,

“For the first half of the school year, your children have done a remarkable job adhering to the protocols in place for health and safety in the school setting. Those protocols will still be in place when we return to school in January.”

Duval Schools is encouraging families to practice the same protocols during winter break. The district’s health director asked parents to report any positive tests during the break to the Department of Health.

Since the first day of class on August 20, the district has reported 732 cases. 504 were students and 228 were staff. The majority of people who’ve tested positive were at elementary and high schools.

The High schools with the most cases include:

  • Fletcher with 63 cases
  • Sandalwood with 35 cases
  • Mandarin with 21 cases.
  • First Coast High with 20 cases
  • Ribault with 18 cases

Students return to class January 5.
