ATEC Kudos – November 2020

ATEC Kudos - November 2020

ATEC Undergraduate students Jacob Reeder, Bryce Nottingham, Scott Huddleston and Hannah Hadidi, had their paper proposals accepted at the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association, in the Animation Studies Chapter of the Conference. The Conference usually takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but in 2021 it will be held online, on the last week of February. The students will present their final papers developed in the Animation Studies and Animation Origins and Techniques classes this semester, taught by Dr. Christine Veras. Each of their papers brings unique perspectives on: experimental animation techniques in Anime (Reeder), political perspectives in independent animation (Nottingham), the representation of neurodiverse characters in commercial animation (Huddleston), and the creation process of an animated panorama experienced as VR (Hadidi). The students will become part of the Animation Research Gang and will have the opportunity to connect and network with worldwide scholars and practitioners from the field.

On November 21st, ATEC Assistant Professor of Instruction Monika Salter participated as a panelist on ASIFA-Hollywood’s Animation Educators Forum (AEF) annual Birds Of A Feather Panel at CTNx LIVE. Animation Educators from around the world participated in this open discussion format focusing on the subject of Teaching Animation in the Era of Covid. Panelists and attendees discussed their common challenges and solutions to the problems presented by the pandemic. More information is available on the AEF website.
