Pitt Co. Health Department employee has virus; some services curtailed

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Some services at the Pitt County Health Department have been curtailed after another employee has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The health department says the worker is not a healthcare provider but does work in an area that supports clinical operations.

The employee, who works in a shared workspace, has not had any contact with patients, according to a news release.

Those employees who were exposed to the other worker were sent home Thursday to quarantine, while the exposed work areas are receiving additional disinfection efforts today, the health department said.

Because of the positive case, they have suspended some clinical appointments, while access to prenatal care services, contraceptive supplies, and communicable disease services will continue.

Back in late March, an employee in the health department’s Environmental Health division came down with the virus.
