Four local coronavirus cases in NSW as school closed; Infected Melbourne truckie fined; Three new cases in Victoria as crowds spark fears of new infections; Queensland braces for more wild weather

The final report into Victoria’s hotel quarantine inquiry has been delayed by over seven weeks, just eight days out from its scheduled release date.

The full document will now be released on December 21, with an interim report to be delivered on November 6.

The interim report will contain recommendations for a proposed quarantine program, based on evidence and information given to the Board.

The final report will deliver findings on the decisions and actions of relevant agencies in establishing the initial program in Victoria, as well as further recommendations.

“This unfortunate delay is due to the provision of additional material which occurred after the conclusion of closing submissions on 28 September 2020, as detailed at the extraordinary sitting on 20 October 2020,” a statement from the Board of Inquiry read.

Inquiry Chair the Hon. Jennifer Coate AO wrote to Premier Daniel Andrews yesterday to advise the Board would not be able to deliver a final report by the original date of November 6.

Another inquiry has also been set up to examine Victoria’s contact tracing system, with upper house MPs passing a motion yesterday afternoon.

The second inquiry comes as the Opposition claims the state’s second wave occurred due to contact tracing failures.

A report is due by December 14.
