2 Suspects Detained After Attempted Break-in at Montecito Business | Local News

An alert neighbor helped foil a break-in at a Montecito business early Tuesday, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

At about 2:40 a.m., officers responded to an optometry office on the 1100 block of Coast Village Road, police spokesman Anthony Wagner told Noozhawk.

They found damaged doors and other evidence that someone had tried to break in to Montecito Optometry, but no people at the scene.

Wagner said the attempted burglars reportedly fled the scene and drove southbound on Highway 101, and a vehicle description was shared with law enforcement agencies.

A Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputy spotted the vehicle, Wagner said,, and pulled it over near Seacliff in Ventura County.

Two people were taken into custody, and some burglary tools were found in the vehicle, he added.

At midday Tuesday, it was unknown whether the suspects were arrested, or whether they were booked into custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail.
