This Children’s Show Is On The Verge Of Breaking An Incredible Netflix Record Held By ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’

I’ll be honest: I didn’t think this would ever happen—or, at least, that it would happen this soon. I couldn’t fathom any television series on Netflix

NFLX
ever spending more than 61 consecutive days on the Top 10 charts like Avatar: The Last Airbender did this past July.

I mean…61 days? Sixty-one straight days? That run not only set a Netflix record, but blew every other show’s Top 10 streak out of the water. So it isn’t possible for a show to be more popular than that, right?

Wrong. Because CoComelon is on the verge of breaking that record—easily.

If you don’t know about CoComelon, then you don’t know about what is probably the most viral children’s show in quite some time (maybe the most viral children’s show ever?). Before the program even headed over to Netflix to spread its reach, CoComelon was dominating on YouTube with its 92 million subscribers and 78 billion views.

And since moving to Netflix, the show has arguably become the most popular program on the world’s most popular streaming platform. By holding the seventh place position today, CoComelon achieved its 58th consecutive showing on Netflix’s Daily Top 10 list for shows. The program’s streak stretches all the way back to August 27.

Avatar: The Last Airbender’s seemingly unbeatable 61-day streak occurred between May 18 and July 17. During that time, Avatar only spent five days in the #1 position on the daily list, yet remained viral enough to remain in the Top 10 for two full months.

During those 61 days, Avatar: The Last Airbender pulled in a grand total of 339 points (you can read more about my Netflix points-ranking system here). That comes to an average of 5.56 points per day of the maximum possible 10. Currently, that’s good enough for fourth place on the 2020 Netflix rankings.

But now CoComelon is working its way up those rankings. While the children’s program’s per-day average is much lower than Avatar’s at 5.16 points per day, CoComelon also appears to have much stronger legs than Avatar. While Avatar had dropped to nearly the bottom of the Daily Top 10 rankings by the end of its run, CoComelon has continued to thrive and rank highly. On October 22, the children’s program rose all the way up to the fourth-place position on the daily list.

During CoComelon’s Netflix run, the show has finished very highly on two different Monthly Top 10 lists: third place in September and (currently) fifth place in October. On the 2020 rankings, CoComelon has already reached ninth place, and is on the verge of jumping past both Cobra Kai and The Office to claim the #6 position.

We won’t know for sure if CoComelon will break Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Netflix record until Wednesday. But I’d feel confident placing my money on the show that’s been viewed nearly 100 billion times.
