FHSU’s Werth College of Science, Technology and Mathematics scholarship recipients announced

HAYS, Kan. – The Werth College of Science, Technology and Mathematics at Fort Hays State University has selected several outstanding students as the recipients of the Peter Werth Endowed ST&M, Munsell, and College of Science, Technology and Mathematics Scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The scholarships are for any Werth College of Science, Technology and Mathematics student exemplifying academic excellence and a desire to serve FHSU. Recipients are listed alphabetically by last name.

Peter Werth ST&M Scholarship recipients:

Brenda Aguirre-Apodaca – $2,000. Aguirre-Apodaca is a biology major from Scott City, specializing in the pre-medicine.

“This scholarship has allowed me to continue pursuing my dream of one day becoming a doctor,” Aguirre-Apodaca said. “I will always be so thankful for being a recipient of the Werth College of Science, Technology and Mathematics Scholarship.”

Alexi Beach – $750. Beach is a biology major from Phillipsburg, specializing in botany.

Mark Faber – $1,000. Faber is a biology major from Colby, specializing in the pre-medicine.

Elijah Gardner Woods – $2,000. Gardner Woods is a geosciences major from Livingston, Texas, specializing in geography.

“I am very grateful for this scholarship,” Gardner Woods said. “I have four siblings. Currently, there are two of us in college and one more to start next year. I was concerned that I would have to get a job and take fewer classes to help my parents pay for my tuition. This scholarship allows me to spend more time studying. I really enjoy geoscience. I hope to contribute greatly to the field in my future career.”

Pedro Ordonez III – $1,000. Ordonez is a computer science major from Hugoton.

“Success isn’t always about ‘greatness,’ it’s about consistency,” Ordonez III said. “Consistent, hard work gains success.”

Ethan Rohr – $500. Rohr is a physics major from Hays.

Tate Schmidt – $1,000. Schmidt is a mathematics major from Hastings, Nebraska.

Noah Stauffer – $1,500. Stauffer is a computer science major from Marion.

Munsell Scholarship recipients:

Colby Dreiling – $2,500. Dreiling is a physics major from Hays.

“As a Werth College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics Scholarship recipient, I look forward to the numerous opportunities I have been enabled to experience and am extremely grateful for everything that has been done for me,” Dreiling said.

Julien Illo – $2,500. Illo is a physics major from Grainfield.

“Receiving the Werth College of Science Scholarship, or any scholarship for that matter, helps motivate me to do my best,” Illo said. “The fact that I have support pushes me to keep persevering through any challenges I face.”

Geoffrey Soneson – $2,500. Soneson is a physics major from Ellsworth.

“Thank you to the donors for this award, and my professors, for putting me in a position to better myself,” Soneson said. “Your generosity and helpfulness are very appreciated!”

College of Science, Technology and Mathematics Scholarship recipient:

Cody Bourbon – $1,000. Bourbon is a physics major from Ellsworth.
