Man arrested after victim shot in back while breaking up Airbnb party in Pendleton

A man was arrested a month after another man was shot in the back while trying to break up an unauthorized Airbnb party in Pendleton, according to court documents.Byron Prather, 46, was arrested on Wednesday. Cincinnati police said someone rented an apartment on Broadway Street through Airbnb on Aug. 16 and threw a party.Neighbors said at least 40 people were inside when Stephen Knight, 32, who was working for the host, went over to break up the large gathering. That’s when he was attacked.”I could hear some punches land even being across the street,” said a witness who asked not to be identified. “One guy with a white shirt just kind of started sprinting outside of the pack that he was walking with and ran into the courtyard, and I could only see a little bit, but it looked like he was throwing punches and they were fighting.”According to court documents, Knight was beaten and kicked by 10 to 12 people, including Prather. The affidavit states Knight fired a single shot into a wall as an attempt to stop the assault, but was then shot in the back. Since that shooting last month, Knight is relearning to walk and recovering with a bullet still in his back.Court documents state Prather was picked out of a photo lineup by Knight as one of the “primary aggressors” the night of his attack.Prather faces felonious assault charges. He is set to appear in court on Thursday.
