Alamo Drafthouse Cinema reopens with new clean-air technology, safety procedures

Triple Tap Ventures LLC, which owns and operates Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo and the soon-to-be-opened all-new East El Paso location, announced Tuesday that its El Paso locations will be the first to use iWave bipolar ionization technology to make it safer for guests and teammates.

“Alamo Drafthouse is determined to not only give movie fans the experience they love about our theaters but to do so safely,” said Neil Billingsley-Michaelsen, CEO and President of Triple Tap Ventures LLC.

“We have taken our time and not rushed to re-open until we could ensure the safety of all of our guests and team members, and we feel now with all the measures in place, including the implementation of the iWave bipolar ionization system, that moviegoers can feel safe and can come enjoy everything that Alamo Drafthouse has to offer.”

“We are also happy to provide our guests with an opportunity to rent out one of our micro theaters for a chance to have the ultimate personal screening experience,” said Aracely Calzadias, Events Manager. “Guests can watch films such as TENET, THE NEW MUTANTS and BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC surrounded by only their friends and family, while still enjoying the comfort and service they’ve come to expect from the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.”

Alamo Drafthouse officials say they have made a number of updates to its policy and procedure in order to provide the safest and most enjoyable experience possible for guests and teammates.

According to officials, Bipolar ionization technology releases charged atoms that attach to and kill harmful substances like bacteria, mold, allergens, and viruses in the building’s air and on surfaces.

The iWave system has been integrated into Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo’s HVAC system. Experts say that bipolar ionization can reduce 99.9% of microbes in a matter of minutes, thus helping to ensure a safe moviegoing experience for El Paso movie-lovers.

Other health and safety procedures which will be in place beginning Tuesday are:

  • Masks will be required for all team members and guests at all times, except when guests are at their seats, eating or drinking.
  • Disposable masks will be available if a guest does not have their own.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the building, including sanitizer wipes at each table.
  • Ticket purchases will automatically have at least two buffer seats surrounding each party, offering at least six feet of distance between guests.
  • Guests will be asked to maintain a social distance of six feet or more throughout the building and when entering or exiting a theater.
  • All auditoriums will be thoroughly disinfected between each screening with electrostatic sanitation machines using EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectants.
  • Additional staff has been added to ensure cleanliness and sanitization of high-touch areas throughout the hours of operation, including kitchen, bathrooms and lobby.
  • All kitchen deliveries are sanitized before entering the building.
  • All team members will submit to a temperature and symptom check before work.
  • Please stay home if you are feeling sick or displaying any symptoms. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo will gladly refund your pre-purchased ticket(s).
