WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump was abruptly escorted by a U.S. Secret Service agent out of the White House briefing room as he was beginning a coronavirus briefing Monday afternoon.

He returned minutes later, saying there was a “shooting” outside the White House that was “under control.”

He said the shots were fired by law enforcement, and he believes the individual who was shot was armed. The shooting took place near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue just blocks from the White House, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation.

WASHINGTON (WXOW) – President Trump was escorted from the White House briefing room Monday for what was described as a security incident.

The president was only a few minutes into a scheduled briefing when a Secret Service agent came into the White House briefing room, spoke to the president, who then left the room.

Media in the room were seen looking out the windows of the briefing room moments after the president left.

After about five minutes, the president returned to the briefing room.

He then said that the Secret Service had shot someone outside the White House fence. He told the media he didn’t know what the condition of the suspect.

“There was a shooting, law enforcement shot someone, seems to be someone, and the suspect is on the way to the hospital,” he said.

The president said he believes the individual who was shot was armed.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information becomes available.
