Victor Hedman got injured during the first period of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s final round-robin game against the Philadelphia Flyers, Saturday.
In what was a seemingly innocent play, the Norris Trophy finalist, switching from skating forward to backward, had his right ankle give out and fell awkwardly to the ice. After laying on the ice for several seconds, he slowly skated off the ice.

Hedman tested his ankle out during the next timeout. After speaking with assistant athletic trainer Mikey Poirer, Hedman got up and limped down towards the tunnel.
Once there, Hedman took his anger out on the Scotiabank Arena railing, whacking it with his stick several times in frustration.

The Lightning later announced Hedman would not return.

This is the second straight year Hedman has had injury trouble during the playoffs. Last year, Hedman struggled with an upper-body injury down the stretch and only played in two of Tampa’s four games against the Blue Jackets in the first round.
