The Major League Lacrosse (MLL) playoffs were set to get underway on Saturday at 4 pm, but that will not be happening as two teams, Chesapeake Bayhawks and Connecticut Hammerheads, have pulled out of the playoffs following a total of four players testing positive for COVID-19, according to multiple sources.
The Denver Outlaws and Boston Cannons will play for the MLL Championship on Sunday.
MLL announced earlier today that one player tested positive for COVID-19 last night and that they had conducted onsite testing of all players and staff. Those tests earlier today yielded three positives. According to multiple sources, the lone player who tested positive last night was a key member of the Chesapeake Bayhawks, who played against the Connecticut Hammerheads in their regular-season finale on Friday.
Two teams, New York Lizards and Philadelphia Barrage, did not make the playoffs and had personnel leave the MLL bubble this morning.
The MLL semifinals had been pushed back from 2 pm and 1 pm and 4 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to allow for the league to obtain the results of the onsite testing and make a decision on how they wanted to move forward. No. 1 seed Denver was set to face No. 4 seed Boston and No. 2 seed Chesapeake was set to play No. 3 seed Connecticut. Both games were set to be rematches of the final two regular-season games on Friday.
