Around 7 p.m. Monday, a truck left westbound Highway 198 through a chain-link fence and slammed into an eastbound vehicle. Both people inside the vehicle died at the scene, according to Lt. Ron Epp.

The driver of the truck was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for treatment. The driver’s condition is unknown.

Witnesses say the driver of the truck reached speeds of 100 mph before the collision. It’s unknown if alcohol was a factor.

The names and ages of the people involved haven’t been released by officers.

The department’s traffic unit was called to investigate the deadly incident. Roads in the area are blocked as police collect evidence and clear debris from the roadway.

On Thursday night, a motorcyclist was hit and killed by an alleged drunken driver at Caldwell Avenue and West Street.

Bryan Buhl, 42, was booked into Tulare County Pretrial Facility on suspicion of homicide, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving with a .20% blood alcohol causing injury.
