BARABOO (WKOW) — Law enforcement Tuesday confirmed that they had found the body of a missing Baraboo girl.

Kodie Dutcher, 10, was the subject of an AMBER Alert sent out Monday night.

Police said her body was found at 11 a.m. in the area of 11th Street and County Highway T, not far from her home.

The girl’s family was notified shortly before the news was publicly announced.

An official cause of death has not been released.

Dutcher had been missing since 4 p.m. Monday. Dutcher was last seen in the 1100 block of 12th Street in Baraboo. At that time, police said the child was potentially going to harm herself. “We believe that she did leave on her own. And we do believe that she may be in danger due to the ingestion of some medications,” said Baraboo Police Capt. Rob Sinden.

One neighbor, Cynthia, lives a few blocks from the apartment the child shared with her mother. Cynthia asks we only use her first name as she regrets she and her husband were unaware of any disappearance when he spotted the girl Monday at 6 p.m.

“We had no reason to suspect anything was up,” she says. “If she’d been stumbling or walking funny or acting strangely, but there was no indication anything was wrong. She stopped, even looked at him and kept going.” Cynthia says her husband did not know the girl and only realized she was the missing girl after watching a news broadcast Tuesday morning, and then contacted police. “He feels bad,” Cynthia says.

Authorities say the child and her mother had only lived in Baraboo three months after moving from Ohio.
