1. Where did your company name originate from?

MaestroVision was founded in 1999. The first product we developed was an automation system and video server for broadcast television stations. An automation system is used in the master control room of a TV station. “Maestro” is the Spanish word for “master” and “vision” comes from “television.”

2. What was the inspiration behind starting your company?

In 1999, it was the beginning of being capable of recording and playing high-quality video signal on computers. At the time, TV stations were still using video tape recorders to playout their on-air signals. Our company’s president, Claude Turcotte, was a broadcast engineer specialist working for a broadcast product manufacturer. He saw an opportunity to develop an application that was going to revolutionize the way high quality video signals are recorded, shared and managed in the broadcast industry.

3. What is your signature product and how does it work?

Today, MaestroVision’s signature product is our law enforcement interview recording and media management software. This technology allows law enforcement officers to record, share and manage their interviews. Other interview recording technologies are extremely low in audio and video quality; they offer poor synchronization of the audio with video resulting in lips time lapses with the audio and meager interview content management.

Coming from the broadcast industry, MaestroVision utilizes the high-quality technologies the company developed to create the best interview recording system and media management solution for law enforcement.  

4. Why do you believe your products are essential to the law enforcement community?

Criminologists estimate that at least 200,000 murders have gone unsolved since the 1960s, leaving family and friends to wait and wonder. One-third of murders in America go unresolved. It is clear for MaestroVision that technologies could help putting criminals behind bars and provide the population with a greater sense of security.

The key is to provide law enforcement with a better way of managing the enormous amount of information that exists, but is so scattered that it’s nearly impossible to retrieve.

The first step is to obtain equipment that will allow for the generation of high-quality content and massive metadata information generation. The second step is to acquire a technology that will allow for very quick and easy access to this information.

This is exactly what MaestroVision’s solutions offer to law enforcement.

5. What has been the biggest challenge your company has faced?

The biggest challenge for MaestroVision has been to convince law enforcement entities to adopt new technologies. Resistance to change is not exclusive to law enforcement, but they can sometimes be reluctant to modify their habits.

Video tapes and DVDs are still part of their media assets. Video file evidences are recorded on a multitude of computers utilizing different management software. The audio and video qualities are generally poor with almost no metadata information.

It is a real challenge for MaestroVision to try to reach law enforcement entities and instruct them on the possibilities that new technologies can offer them.

6. What makes your company unique?

What makes MaestroVision so unique is that its DNA is in the broadcast industry. The broadcast industry requires not only the best audio and video qualities, but also the most reliable solution. We understand that when you sell a 30-second commercial for $5,000 you do not want to miss it.

MaestroVision has developed the highest standards in audio and video qualities that have been adopted by the broadcast industry. It is the same encoding technology that is being used in our interview recording solution.

The stability of the solution is the most important for MaestroVision. MaestroVision only utilizes industrial computers that are the most reliable. Moreover, other interview recording software is generally the weakest chain in the solution. Pop-up windows that we always see in standard software applications are cool, but they weaken the stability of the solution. You will notice that MaestroVision’s applications offer no pop-up windows. This engineering standard is required in the broadcast industry for the highest possible stability.

8. What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?

The most rewarding part of serving the first responder community is that feeling of contributing to the population’s sense of security. MaestroVision has already installed hundreds of solutions to law enforcement entities. Every time we hear someone has been arrested in locations our technologies have been installed, we’re always proud to think that those criminals have been interviewed with our technology.

9. Do you support any charitable organizations within public safety?

MaestroVision is proud to contribute to charitable organizations. There are two entities, one in Quebec City, Canada, and one in New Hampshire that received our solutions free. Those are child support organizations that sometimes need to interview children outside that sterile environment of police stations.

MaestroVision also donates solutions to universities that can’t afford our solutions and we offer a 50% discount to TV community stations so they can afford to broadcast their signals.

10. What’s next for your company? Any upcoming new projects or initiatives?

MaestroVision is continuously listening to its customers to understand their challenges. We are always in development to improve and facilitate the workflow of police officers. We are currently involved with artificial intelligence. This new technology will offer better tools for law enforcement.
