Woodbury County health officials have concerns of possible second COVID-19 wave

UPDATED:

Health officials in Woodbury County say they’ve seen a drop in positive cases. But, they’re also worried about a possible second wave of COVID-19.

“Yes, I am concerned about that increase. You can always operate on faith and hope that it’s a one day sort of episodic thing. But, we’re just concerned with the aspect if the trend continues,” said Kevin Grieme, Health Director.

Grieme adds just because they see numbers going down doesn’t mean people should let their guard down.

“When we got down to those single digits, everybody took this breath of relief thinking we’re getting close to the end. But just the actual presence of a minimal number of cases with reduced precautionary sort of actions. That would lead to that continued spread and of course, a growth of cases,” said Grieme.

Those health officials add that continuing to take steps to help stop the spread, things like wearing masks and social distancing, is essential to help stop a second wave.

“At this point in time, until we get this somewhat eradicated or at least greatly minimized, it really is the right thing to do. And let’s do it for each other,” said Grieme.

Grieme adds they’ve seen a double digit increase in cases for the first time in two weeks.
