The Essex County Vocational Technical School District, one of New Jersey’s first vocational school, is one of the state’s largest vocational tech school systems. Dating back to 1914, the school system offers occupational and academic instruction for high school and adult students.

Essex County’s Vocational Schools consist of Newark Tech, Payne Tech and West Caldwell Tech. The newly built Donald M. Payne, Sr. campus in Newark replaced Bloomfield Tech and North 13th Street Tech in 2018. After the completion of the West Caldwell campus, scheduled for the end of 2021, the state will renovate Newark Tech.

Approximately 2,200 students attend the schools, which provide state-of-the-art career skill development and academic subjects in over 25 occupational areas.

Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., shared, “The future is becoming reality as our vocational technical school district continues to implement cutting edge technology into the classroom that is challenging our students, allowing them to thrive and preparing them for a variety of professional careers.”
