Republicans are sharing the ‘breaking points’ that convinced them not to vote for President Donald Trump for a second term.
The question was posed on Reddit on Sunday night, with user BenTCinco asking those who voted for Trump in 2016 what made then decide to abandon him in November.
The thread has earned thousands of replies, with users citing his focus on television ratings, his hypocrisy over criticizing Obama for playing golf, and Cabinet resignations.
Speaking out: Republicans are sharing the ‘breaking points’ that convinced them not to vote for President Donald Trump for a second term
The top-voted answer came from a user who was finished when Trump was recorded ‘comparing his Coronavirus briefing ratings to the Bachelor.’
The comparison came in a series of tweets from Trump on March 29, when he quoted Michael M. Grynbaum of the New York Times.
‘President Trump is a ratings hit. Since reviving the daily White House briefing Mr. Trump and his coronavirus updates have attracted an average audience of 8.5 million on cable news, roughly the viewership of the season finale of “The Bachelor,”‘ he wrote.
Another Republican was done when ‘when he posted a tweet about not going to be a bad president that would go golfing for a month but that’s what he did.’
Trump had tweeted at over two dozens times criticizing President Obama’s golf outings, according to SB Nation.

According to CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller, Obama played 333 rounds of golf over the course of his eight years in office. Meanwhile, CNN reports that as of May 25, Trump has already played golf 266 times.
Another Reddit commenter was less upset by showboating but reached his last straw when Former United States Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis stepped down on January 1, 2019.
‘I respect that man more than almost any other,’ the commenter wrote. ‘I can’t fathom what the breaking point was and I am terrified to read the memoir when it comes out.’
Mattis recently criticized Trump to The Atlantic over his response to Black Lives Matter protests.
Just a game: Another Republican was done after Trump had spent years criticizing Obama for playing golf — but then went on to play more often than he did
Twice as fast: Obama had played golf 333 over eight years. Trump has already played 266 times times in less than four years
‘Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try’ he said. ‘We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort.’
Yet another Redditor said they take issue with the way Trump talks to other world leaders, while one more said the ‘picture of him in front of the church holding the Bible after teargassing protestors was the absolute last straw from me.’
One recalled a speech to the conservative student group Turning Point USA in December, in which Trump went on a rant against windmills.
Trump said: “I never understood wind. I know windmills very much, I have studied it better than anybody. I know it is very expensive. They are made in China and Germany mostly, very few made here, almost none, but they are manufactured, tremendous — if you are into this — tremendous fumes and gases are spewing into the atmosphere. You know we have a world, right?
Gone: Another Reddit commenter reached his last straw when Former United States Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis stepped down on January 1, 2019
‘So the world is tiny compared to the universe. So tremendous, tremendous amount of fumes and everything. You talk about the carbon footprint, fumes are spewing into the air, right spewing, whether it is China or Germany, is going into the air.’
Trump also claimed windmills ‘kill many bald eagles.’
The Redditor commented: ‘That was when I became embarrassed about my vote and started to regret it. It only got worse after that.
Yet another commenter said he had only voted for Tump because he hated Clinton, but he soon realized he ‘f***ed up.’
‘I can’t think of a specific moment but I think it was the realization that he wasn’t just saying things and enacting policies that were opposed to previous Democrat ideas and policies, he was just saying whatever crazy s** came to mind. He is also a horrid racist and bigot, and honestly not mentally healthy,’ he said.
A recent CNN poll found that 38 per cent approve of the way Trump is handling the presidency, while 57 per cent disapprove, and he currently trails Biden by 14 points. However, the general election is still almost five months away
