The government of Zhejiang Province and Shanghai Jiao Tong University signed an agreement over the weekend for cooperation in science and technology as well as emerging industries.
The two parties will carry out research for strategic consultation, build platforms to speed up innovation and transformation of innovative achievements into application, and enhance cooperation in related talent cultivation in areas including ocean science and engineering, biomedicine, integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, high-end equipment, new materials and fin-tech.
According to the province’s development plan, they will first kick off the construction of the Zhejiang-SJTU Institute of Applied Marine Technology to enhance cooperation in fields such as smart ocean technologies, ocean engineering equipment, dredging technology and environment treatment.
With the province’s geographic and industrial advantages as well as the university’s strength in ocean science, they will develop the institute into a platform for transforming research findings into applications and a base for talent cultivation.
The Yangtze River Delta region has about one fifth of China’s coastal line and is home to top marine research forces including Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The university excels in ocean engineering, ocean strategy and marine ecology, and has a long research history and outstanding research strength.
