BREAKING: Disney World Testing New Contactless Security and Bag Check System Ahead of Theme Parks Reopening

It appears that Disney is testing a new security scanning system ahead of the theme parks reopening next month. Currently, the test is taking place in the Lime Garage at Disney Springs at the entrance to the escalator.

The new process has you walk through a scanner, which you can see below in a video from the manufacturer of the technology.

The manufacturer, Evolv Express, boasts that “It is the fastest weapons-screening system on the market, consistently screening 60 people every minute for firearms and other threats. That’s 3,600 people per hour, or 10X faster than a traditional checkpoint system.”

We had our reporter who happened to be at Disney Springs during the testing try out the new system. He was walked through the scanner, while having to put his camera and water bottle into a separate bin for security to check. He observed that many security officers were not pulling aside those with smaller bags or purses, but larger backpacks will probably still need to searched.

The beauty of this new system is that it’ll be contactless, which will be important as we begin to navigate this post-COVID-19 world. This isn’t the only step that Disney will be taking, as new procedures for housekeeping and transportation have also been rolled out in recent weeks.

Of course, follow along with us here at WDWNT as we continue to cover the openings of Disney Parks and Resorts across the world.
