BREAKING ... Route 211 shopping center strip shut down as protesters march

TOWN OF WALLKILL – The latest protest rally and march in support of Black Lives Matter resulted in the complete closure of the Route 211 shopping center corridor from Tower Drive in the Town of Wallkill to the Middletown City line at Wisner Avenue.

An estimated 500 people gathered at the Hanaford’s supermarket parking lot in Wallkill, marched up the hill to Wallkill Town Hall where a rally was held.

From there they marched to Route 211 where police had already shut down the highway to motor vehicle traffic as a precaution to protect the marchers.

There have been dozens of protests and rallies large and small across the region since George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis. Four police officers there have been arrested and charged in connection with his death.
