Duluth Police deploy tear gas to break up protesters in Lincoln Park, firefighters put out car fire

DULUTH, MN — Duluth Police deployed tear gas to break up a group of protesters and onlookers at the Kwik Trip convenience in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood around 1 a.m. Sunday.

Police issued several warnings to the group to disperse before deploying the tear gas.

Law enforcement officials ranging from Duluth and Superior Police to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office spent at least three hours in the area of 27th Avenue West and West Superior Street Saturday night.

The Kwik Trip closed for the night after the disturbances started.

Shortly after police broke up the crowd, firefighters responded to a care fire at Perrins Auto Sales along Central Entrance around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Our crew on the scene said fireworks were seen coming from the single car.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the blaze.

Late Saturday, Mayor Emily Larson issued a curfew for Duluth that started at 10 p.m. and was set to last through 6 a.m. Sunday and again starting Sunday at 9 p.m.
