The National Weather Service in Phoenix on Monday issued an excessive heat warning for Wednesday and Thursday throughout the Valley.

The Phoenix area is expected to break records Wednesday, with temperatures hitting 107 degrees, beating the 106-degree record for the day set in 2018, according to Weather Service meteorologist Marvin Percha.

“We’ve been having a very strong high pressure over the region for the last several days,” Percha said. “It weakened a bit over the weekend, but it’s restrengthening again this week.”

Thursday, which is expected to hit 107 degrees as well, will be one degree away from breaking the 108 degree record, Percha said.

“It’s basically all of the lower deserts of south-central and southwest Arizona,” Percha said. “Just about anywhere in the lower deserts across southern Arizona can expect very hot conditions.”

As a result, the National Weather Service in Tucson issued an excessive heat warning for Wednesday as well, according to a tweet on Monday.

Percha said he recommends that Valley residents take the necessary precautions in order to stay safe.

“People are still not likely completely acclimated to the heat,” Percha said. “Keep yourself well hydrated, and try to schedule your outdoor activity for the early part of the days.”
