Keiser University Student Gains Hands-On Experience at Technology Company
Pedro Rodriguez, a Software Engineering program major at Keiser University’s Pembroke Pines campus, is thankful for the experience he has gained while serving as an intern at ITContingency LLC, a Fort Lauderdale-based company active in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven security systems.
Hand-selected because of his creativity and unique approaches to Software Engineering by campus president Piotr Lechowski, Internet Technology program Dean Irvin Heard and Software Engineering University Department Chair Christopher Bourne, Rodriguez is the first Keiser University ITContingency intern. Introduced by Oren Alter, Keiser University’s Associate Vice Chancellor of Crisis Management, the internship opportunity is designed to provide students with experience in the varied field. “Pedro Rodriguez’s in-depth and broad software engineering knowledge is a testament to Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering program,” said Aaron McKay, President and Chief Technology Officer of ITContingency.
Now embracing his Keiser University classes online due to the corona virus, Rodriguez shared that he has been working remotely for ITContingency on various projects. While keeping in touch with colleagues via Zoom meetings and emails, he also continues to reach for the stars as a Keiser University student. “Our professor Christopher Bourne has done a great job keeping us informed and up to date with the classes. We meet throughout the week online, and after lectures he checks in with each of us individually to offer support to ensure we are steadily progressing in our assignments. I’m really thankful I’m able to continue my education despite this crisis, and I love the flexibility that Keiser has provided in making the transition to online learning. I send my gratitude to all of the Keiser University professors who wake up every morning to teach our online classes,” he said.
Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering degree prepares students with the knowledge and practical skills to function in entry-level positions within the profession. Software engineering relates to the conceptualization, design, implementation, deployment, and maintenance of software solutions (software development life cycle). At its core, the program seeks to provide the theoretical fundamentals of software development coupled with an appreciation and understanding of practical aspects and competencies required by industry. The program is designed to foster innovation through the use of software engineering as a business problem-solving discipline.
ITC was founded by Chief Executive Officer James Woodyatt Chief Technology Officer Aaron McKay to create technologies designed to deliver advanced, integrated, and reasonably priced security solutions. Products include the Simpliot system composed of a detection component called Citadel, and a notification counterpart referred to as the Emergency Warning System (EWS) Core, which provides command and control capabilities. The Citadel system, which uses artificial intelligence-based video camera detection software, provides amongst other solutions, drawn weapon detection, object detection, and license plate recognition. One of the cornerstones of ITC’s corporate culture is the pursuit of and emphasis on alliances and long-term relationships with a strong emphasis on collaboration between staff and clients.
