HADLEY — Criminal charges will be filed against two people following the conclusion of two investigations into a string of car break-ins and a stolen car, police announced Thursday.

Hadley Police Lt. Mitchell Kuc wrote in a post on the department’s Facebook page that on March 21, officers responded to Highland Circle for reports of suspicious activity. When they arrived, officers found a vehicle and several individuals, Kuc wrote. The car fled, leaving one person behind.

“It was ultimately discovered that the occupants of the vehicle were breaking into cars in several neighborhoods in that area,” Kuc said.

A 14-year-old male from Hartford, Connecticut will be charged with six counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle and one count of larceny by single scheme as a result of the police’s investigation, according to Kuc.

On March 27, the police department was alerted that a car had been stolen from Bay Road, Kuc said. The car’s owner had a GPS tracker in the car, leading officers to locate the car in Agawam. After working with the Agawam Police Department, criminal charges will be filed against a 37-year-old Agawam man for larceny of a motor vehicle, according to Kuc.

Kuc declined to give the name of the 37-year-old as he has not yet been arraigned.

Kuc thanked residents who came forward with home surveillance footage in the Facebook post, which he said was “crucial in both cases.”
