Niles court gets emergency technology grant | News, Sports, Jobs

NILES — The Niles Municipal Court will get new remote video conferencing capabilities that will help the court remain operational while safeguarding public health, thanks to an emergency technology grant from the Supreme Court of Ohio.

The $12,133 grant was announced Thursday in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and emergency orders from Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio Health Department Director Dr. Amy Acton. The new technology will allow the court to further distance crowds by livestreaming its feed in the court lobby and by video conferencing with attorneys and clients at offsite locations.

Niles Municipal Judge Christopher J. Shaker said the emergency technology will add to technology already in place, including the recently installed court and probation check-in kiosks in the lobby.
